Saints Hold Off Crown College Comeback

Box Score ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team held off a late comeback in the closing seconds to defeat the Crown College Storm 78-74 Saturday afternoon at the Crown College gymnasium.

The teams traded opening baskets en route to 9-8 lead by the Saints.  The half would finish this way as well with neither team being able to take a lead larger than five points.

The second half saw Crown tie the score at 33 in the opening moments.  The Saints would rally to take an 11 point lead with 7:21 left in the ball game.  Crown would use stingy defense to force several Saint turnovers in the final minutes.  Crown would come within two points, 76-74, with 32 seconds left in the game.  The Saints would go 2-for-4 from the line in the final seconds to seal a 78-74 victory.

Crown (4-17) would have three players scoring 20, 18, and 16 points, respectively.  The Storm would finish the game shooting 42-percent from the field and beyond the arc, while shooting 44-percent from the free-throw line.  The Storm would commit 12 turnovers and grab 31 rebounds.

The Saints were led by Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS)'s double-double, scoring 29 points and collecting 10 rebounds.  Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) was not too far behind, scoring 28 points.  MarShaan Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis North HS (Minneapolis Comm. & Tech. College)) added 10 points as well.

The Saints would finish shooting 53-percent from the field, 42-percent from beyond the arc, and 68-percent from the charity stripe.  The Saints would commit 17 turnovers and collect 37 rebounds.

The Saints (11-10, 8-2 UMAC) will host Martin Luther College next Friday with tip scheduled 25 minutes after the completion of the women's game.  That game can be viewed on Game Central via csssaints.com.
