PREVIEW: Men’s Hockey Prepares To Host Stevens Point in Peters Cup Semifinals

The 11th ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team is back in the NCHA Peters Cup semi-finals after missing last year and will host the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers on Saturday evening at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Last Action: The Saints survived a scare last weekend against the last place UW-Stout Blue Devils tying 4-4 on Friday night and needing three unanswered goals to squeak out a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday.  Tyler Miller (Fort Frances, Ontario/Rainy River HS (Thunder Bay-SIJHL) ) scored the game-winner for the Saints on Saturday.

#11 St. Scholastica Saints (15-7-5)
The Saints are now unbeaten in their last four games on their way to the semi-finals of the NCHA Peters Cup playoffs… The Saints made it to the semi-finals back in 2010 where they lost at home to the UW-River Falls Falcons and missed last year after dropping two games to UW-Superior in the quarters… Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) leads the team in points with 33 which is also enough to earn him a tie for best in the conference.  Corcoran has 17 goals and 16 assists this season… Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) isn't far behind with 27 points on 10 goals and 17 assists… After scoring the game winner against Stout, Miller joins the double-digit goal club with 10 and 26 total points… Carter Davis (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Central Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) also has 10 goals paired with 15 assists and Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) also has double-digit goals with 11… Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) is now 12-7-5 on the season making 630 saves with a 2.58 goals against average.

UW-Stevens Point Pointers (13-10-4)
The Pointers also survived a scare a week ago at home against UW-Superior needing sudden death overtime of a tie-breaker mini game to move on in the Peters Cup… Point dropped the first game by a goal then used a 3-0 victory on Saturday to force the mini game where the Pointers took it 2-1 in the first OT…  Kyle Heck is far and away the team leader in scoring with 26 points on 19 goals and seven assists and is the only player on the team with eight or more goals… Luke Nesper is in a distant second with 18 points on six goals and a team best 12 assists… Brandon Jaeger and Nick Graves have split time in goal this season for the Pointers… Jaeger has a 6-3-2 record with a 2.04 goals against average while Graves is 6-7-2 allowing 2.64 goals per game.

Last Meeting: (CSS All-Time Record vs. UW-Stevens Point: 13-46-4)
The Saints and Pointers met a few weeks ago in the Saints final home series of the season.  Stevens Point snuck out of Duluth with a 2-1 victory over CSS despite a late comeback attempt by the Saints.

Trivia: The Saints come into the game with the best power play percentage in the NCHA at 27.7% while Stevens Point is the most penalized team in conference averaging 21.8 minutes/game.
