The 13th ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored four unanswered goals to earn a 5-3 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds at Hobbs Ice Center on Saturday night.

The victory over the Blugolds (11-11-3, 5-11-2 NCHA) clinches the two seed in the Peters Cup for CSS and assures home ice for at least the first two rounds.

The Blugolds started the scoring just four minutes into the game when Jordan Singer found the net on an assist from Tyler Romasco to give Eau Claire an early 1-0 lead.

UW-Eau Claire extended the lead five minutes later when Singer scored his second of the night on a Ross Andersen assist to make it 2-0 in favor of the Blugolds.

With just under two minutes left the Saints cut the lead in half when Carter Davis (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Central Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) notched his tenth goal of the season from Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) and Tyler Miller (Fort Frances, Ontario/Rainy River HS (Thunder Bay-SIJHL) ) to make it 2-1 Blugolds heading into the first intermission.

The Blugolds took a two-goal lead once again with three minutes left in the second when Singer earned a hat trick scoring his third goal of the game to make it 3-1 Eau Claire.

Once again the Saints chipped away at the lead late in the period when Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) scored on assists from Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) and Cody Danychuk (Biggar, Saskatchewan/Biggar HS (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) to make it 3-2 Eau Claire when the second intermission came.

Just 29 seconds into the third period Corcoran found the net for the second time in less than two minutes to tie the game up at three.  Danychuk and Davis got assists on the play.

At the 7:16 point of the period Chris Sinclair (Fort Frances, Ontario/Beaver Brae Secondary (Fort Frances-SIJHL) ) scored an unassisted goal to put the Saints ahead for the first time in the game at 4-3.

The Blugolds attempted a comeback pulling the goalie and using an extra attacker but failed when Danychuk scored his first goal of the year on an empty net with a minute left to secure a St. Scholastica victory.  The Saints went on to win 5-3.

Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) earned the victory in net for CSS making saves and improving to 11-7-4 on the season.

Corcoran's goals now give him a team best 17 goals and 32 total points.  Dawes remains in second with 25 points and Miller and Davis are tied for third with 24 points.  Danychuk's three points give him eight on the season.

The Saints (14-7-4, 9-5-4 NCHA) will have a home series next week in the first round of the Peters Cup when they play host to the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils (8-16-1, 4-13-1 NCHA) at Mars Lakeview Arena.  The puck drop will be 7:05 p.m. both nights and can be seen live on GameCentral at csssaints.com.
