Men’s Basketball Falls at Puget Sound

Box Score TACOMA, Wash. (csssaints.com) – The University of Puget Sound (Wash.) scored 56 second half points on it way to an 88-53 victory over the St. Scholastica men's basketball team on Tuesday night.

The Saints would make just three field goals in the first 14 minutes, including going eight minutes without a field goal and trailed 21-9 with six minutes left. CSS would get the margin down to seven, but still trailed 32-23 at the half.

The Saints shot 30 percent in the half and were 8-for-17 from the free throw line. The Loggers shot 39 percent and were 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Puget Sound had a slight edge on the glass at 22-19.

Jonah Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) would connect on a 3-pointer at the start of the second half to cut the lead to six. A pair of Dahlman free throws made the score 37-32 three minutes into the half.

However, the Loggers (2-3) would respond with an 11-0 run and grew their lead to 52-34. CSS was held without a field goal for five minutes during that span.

The Loggers had a 12-0 run later in the half and the lead to continue to climb as they shot 54 percent in the half to win by a final margin of 88-53. Puget Sound made seven 3-pointers in the second half.

CSS finished with a field goal percentage of .286 and was just 23-for-39 from the free throw line. Puget Sound finished at 46 percent from the field and was 16-for-19 from the free throw line.

Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) led the Saints with 11 points and Dahlman added 10 points. Scottie Rucks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) had seven points and a team-high eight rebounds. Riggs Yarbro had 18 points to lead the Loggers.

The Saints (1-7) will return to the Midwest and get back to action on Saturday, December 15th at Finlandia University (Mich.). The tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. eastern time.
