Box Score HANCOCK, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team came back from eight points down in the first half to defeat the Finlandia University Lions by a score of 79-68 Saturday afternoon on the campus of Finlandia.
The start of the contest saw CSS jump out to an early lead with about six minutes gone by. The Lions would rebound from the deficit and take an eight point lead going into the break by a score of 40-32.
The second half saw the Lions control the ball once again, but the Saints made a strong push to come back and at the 11:27 mark of the second half, CSS guard
Steve Golobich (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl HS (Mesabi Range CC)) hit a 3-pointer to put the Saints up for good the rest of the game.
CSS would extend the lead to as much as 14 points before eventually winning 79-68.
Finlandia (1-9) was led by Jon Moore with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Dominic Morrow had 13 points and 13 rebounds as well in the losing effort.
The Lions shot 44-percent for the game from the field, 30-percent from beyond the arc, and 66-percent from the free-throw line. The Lions would grab 42 rebounds and commit 20 turnovers.
St. Scholastica was led by senior
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) wit h21 points and six boards.
Scottie Rucks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) added 15 points and was 75-percent from beyond the arc.
Jonah Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) and
Cole Mortel (Luck, Wis./Luck HS) each added 10 points as well.
The Saints would finish shooting 47-percent from the field, 41-percent from beyond the arc, and 73-percent from the charity stripe. CSS would grab 29 rebounds and commit only 11 turnovers.
The Saints (2-7) will have two weeks off from action before returning to the hardwood to face Concordia-Moorhead at home on Saturday, December 29 in the Reif Gymnasium. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. local time. Tune into csssaints.com to view the live broadcast for that game.
