Duhawks Net a Pair of Second Half Goals to Down Saints

Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team fell to 19th-ranked Loras College (Iowa) 2-0 on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament thanks to a pair of second half goals by the Duhawks.

The Duhawks controlled possession early in the first half getting some decent looks at the net from outside the box, but nothing that really challenged CSS goalkeeper Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ). The final 25 minutes of the first half the Saints gained more-and-more possession, including earning a couple of corners and some scoring chances. However, the contest would be scoreless at the half.

Loras outshot the Saints 6-4 in the first 45 minutes with Reeves making four saves for CSS. The Saints had the edge in corner kicks 2-1.

The start of the second half saw the Duhawks getting great opportunities again, but unable to find the back of the net. CSS had some offensive rushes of its own, but were unable to get any good looks at the goal.

The Duhawks (18-4-0) finally broke the scoreless tie in the 66th minute when Katie Truesdale headed in a Hillary Wilson corner kick. Five minutes later, Loras added to its lead when a Duhawks cross deflected off a CSS foot and into the net to make it 2-0.

Reeves made six saves in the loss for the Saints, while Hannah Wilson had one save in the win for the Duhawks.

The Saints' season ends with a 17-5-1 overall record. The Duhawks move on to face the winner of Aurora University (Ill.) and Calvin College (Mich.). CSS will say goodbye to three seniors: Andrea Beatt (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS), Joey Moore (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Theresa Magliano (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS).
