Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was unable to hold the lead in the early minutes of the game and fell to Twin Ports rival University of Wisconsin-Superior 72-54 Sunday afternoon at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
The opening minutes of the game saw both UW-Superior and CSS exchange baskets until the Saints gained their first lead and only lead of the game with a jumper from
Cole Mortel (Luck, Wis./Luck HS) just over two minutes into the game. The Saints then fell victim to a quick 7-2 run by the 'jackets and were never able to cut into that deficit. The Saints trailed at the half 34-29.
The second half was all UWS as the 'jackets jumped out to leads of 16 and 21 points throughout the half. The Saints were never able to make a big run to cut into the lead and eventually fell 72-54.
UWS (2-2) was led by Jarrod Peterson and Aaron Corry with 19 and 15 points, respectively. The 'jackets would finish the game shooting 47 percent from the field, 42 percent from beyond the arc and 50 percent from the free throw line.
CSS was led by
Jonah Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) with 15 points.
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. The Saints would finish shooting 37 percent from the field, 22 percent from beyond the arc and 57 percent from the charity stripe.
The Saints (0-4) are on the road again Wednesday as they travel to UW-Eau Claire in a non-conference matchup against the Blugolds. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. local time.
