Box Score ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was defeated 82-51 on Friday night by the University of Wisconsin-Stout in the Perkins Tip-off Tournament, hosted by Bethel University.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first two minutes of the contest. The lead got as high as 14 with over five minutes to play in the first half, but the Saints went on an 8-0 run to cut the score to 32-26.
However, Stout came right back with an 8-0 run of its own and would go into the locker room leading 42-29.
The biggest statistics that stood out in the first half was that the Blue Devils scored 11 points off of CSS turnovers and outscored the Saints 7-0 in second-chance points. The Saints shot 52 percent in the first 20 minutes, but were out-rebounded 20-13, including 9-0 in offensive rebounds and committed 13 turnovers.
The Blue Devils widened their margin early in the second half by going on a 16-2 run. The Stout lead got as high 35 before the final margin of 82-51.
CSS shot just 24 percent in the second half to finish at 35 percent for the game. The Blue Devils shot 49 percent for the game and had a 46-29 rebounding advantage. Stout outscored the Saints 46-32 in the paint.
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) led the Saints with 16 points. Freshman
Scottie Rucks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) added seven points and
Jonah Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) had six points and six assists. Former Saint, Josh Kosloske paced the Blue Devils with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The Saints will face the host, Bethel University, at 6 p.m. tomorrow. The Royals fell to Simpson College (Iowa) 81-63 tonight.
