DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team will make its second consecutive NCAA Division III playoff appearance on Saturday when it travels to face the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon.

About the Saints
Record: 8-2, 7-1 UMAC

  • St. Scholastica captured a share of the UMAC regular season title two weeks ago, by defeating the University of Minnesota Morris 28-21 and having Greenville College (Ill.) defeat Northwestern College 27-16.
  • Junior running back Jake Jensen (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS) ran for a season-high 124 yards in the victory.
  • Later that Saturday, CSS got some luck to go its way by being randomly selected out of a box as the team to represent the conference in the NCAA playoffs.
  • Head Coach Greg Carlson is a UW-Oshkosh alum and played from 1966-69 as a free safety for the Titans. He was on the 1968 conference championship team.
  • CSS won its final four games of the regular season for the third consecutive season.
  • The Saints went 5-0 on the road this season, marking the second straight year they finished unbeaten away from Duluth during the regular season.
  • Senior defensive tackle Zack Dubanoski (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) is the program leader in career tackles for a loss (35) and forced fumbles (9) and ranks second in tackles (257).
  • In special teams play this season, the Saints have recorded their first punt return for a TD in program history, five of the top 10 longest punt returns have taken place, the longest kickoff return and kicker Mike Theismann (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS) is 11-for-12 on field goal attempts.
  • Sophomore quarterback Tyler Harper (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) has not thrown an interception in his last two games and has thrown seven TDs in the last three games.
  • Senior wideout Nick Thiry (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) leads the team with 44 receptions for 562 yards and seven touchdowns.
  • Junior defensive back Alec French (Isanti, Minn./St. Francis HS) leads the team with 80 tackles, while junior Mike LaValley (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) has a team-high four interceptions.


About the Titans
Record: 10-0, 7-0 WIAC

  • The Titans earned their first-ever 10-0 season and their fourth undefeated regular season in program history (Last=1935) after last week's 27-18 victory over UW-Stout.
  • UW-Oshkosh won the WIAC Championship for the first time since 1976.
  • This will be the first-ever NCAA playoff appearance for UW-Oshkosh.
  • Senior quarterback Nate Wara became just the fourth WIAC player in history to eclipse 10,000 yards of total offense in his career last Saturday.
  • Wara is seventh in the nation in passing efficiency and 23rd in total offense.
  • The Titans also feature a ball-hawking defense with a +16 turnover ratio, ranked eighth in NCAA Division III.
  • Cole Myhra leads the Titans rushing attack with 1,086 yards on the ground this season and 10 touchdowns. Myhra led the conference with 136.4 all-purpose yards per game.
  • Wide receivers Caleb Voss and Zach Kasuboski each lead the team with 44 receptions, while Voss has almost double the yards, averaging 20.6 yards per catch.
  • Taylor Goodman leads the defense with 73 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss and three forced fumbles.
  • Senior defensive back Tim Filter has seven interceptions this season.

Series History
  • This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
  • This will be the first time the Saints will play a team from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
  • The Titans have played three teams that have UMAC ties in program history. Oshkosh shutout Minnesota Morris 54-0 in 2000 when Morris was affiliated with Division II. The Titans have also shutout Mount Senario in 1988 and were 8-0-1 vs. Northland. Mt. Senario has since closed its doors and Northland no longer has a football team.
