Box Score MANKATO, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team took care of business against Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday, snatching up all three sets in the victory.
The Saints would pull away in the middle of the first set, going on a 6-1 run. The Saints went up 1-0 in the match after winning the first set 25-20.
A 9-2 run in the beginning of the second set would give the Saints the edge, as they would go on to win the set 25-19.
In the third set, CSS jumped out early with a 5-1 lead. The Vikings would try to close the gap, but the Saints would stay ahead to win 25-23, securing the victory.
Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led the Saints in kills with 16; she is currently leading the UMAC with 4.2 kills/set.
Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) recorded 11 kills in the game, while
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 32 assists on the day.
Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) and Zyvoloski were credited with 12 digs apiece in the victory. Shelby Wiederhoeft led the Vikings with 14 kills.
The Saints are now tied for first in the UMAC with a record of 6-1-0, and overall they are 11-9-0. The Vikings fall to 2-5 in conference play, and are 3-18-0 overall.
CSS will return home for its next action, facing the University of Minnesota Morris on Friday and Crown College on Saturday. Game time Friday is set for 7 p.m., while Saturday's match will be played at 1 p.m. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sport Net.
