Box Score NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team won its third straight road match sweeping Martin Luther College Friday night in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.
The win gives the Saints sole possession of second place in the conference as both CSS and the Knights came into tonight's match tied in second.
St. Scholastica did not trail in the opening set, recording the first three points of the night and then later going on an 11-1 run to win by a score of 25-10. CSS had a .348 hitting percentage in the set, while the Knights were at -.061.
Martin Luther (10-9, 4-2 UMAC) came out strong in the second set scoring the first four points, but the Saints eventually took the lead at 16-15. With the score tied 17-17, the Saints scored the next four points on its way to a 25-21 set two victory.
The third set was a set of runs as the Saints had a 5-0 run, followed by a 5-0 run by Martin Luther and CSS responded with another 5-0 run.
Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) had three straight kills in the latter run. The Saints closed out the Knights in three sets by a score of 25-17.
Zyvoloski led the Saints with a match-high 17 kills.
Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) added six kills.
Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) and
Kayla Horbacz (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) chipped in with five kills apiece.
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded 28 assists.
Jenny Kienzle (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS), along with Zyvoloski led the team with 10 digs.
The Saints (10-9, 5-1 UMAC) will be at Bethany Lutheran College tomorrow afternoon. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
