DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team will have to take care of business in the regular season finale at the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday, while also looking for some help from Greenville College (Ill.) and a little luck as well if it wants its season to continue. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Big Cat Stadium.

  • The Saints still have an outside chance of qualifying for the NCAA Playoffs for the second year in a row. If Northwestern defeats Greenville, the Eagles are the outright UMAC Champions. If Greenville defeats
    Northwestern and the Saints lose to Morris, the Panthers and Eagles are co-champions and the Panthers advance to the playoffs. If Greenville defeats Northwestern and the Saints defeat Morris, all three teams are co-champions and a random draw will determine who gets the conference's automatic qualifier.
  • The Saints are looking to finish unbeaten on the road during the regular season for the second consecutive season.
  • St. Scholastica is coming off its first overtime victory in program history last Saturday with a 20-17 win at Presentation College.

  • Moose Lake's Chris Gassert (Moose Lake, Minn./Moose Lake HS) had a nice game on the ground last Saturday rushing for 86 yards, including 51 yards in the fourth quarter and overtime.
  • Kicker Mike Theismann (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS) finally missed a field goal in his collegiate career, but redeemed himself with the 25-yard game-winner in overtime.

  • Minnesota Morris can finish tied for second in the conference with a win and a Greenville loss on Saturday.
  • Morris also survived overtime last week at Crown College winning 30-29. The Cougars needed two touchdowns in the final 5:13 to send the game into overtime where a missed extra point was the difference.
  • The Cougars will come into Saturday's contest riding a four-game winning streak.
  • During that win streak, Morris has put up big numbers through the air averaging 300 yards per game. In their first five games, the Cougars averaged just 208 yards per game.
  • The Cougars ran for a season-low 38 yards vs. Crown last week. Morris has averaged 38 more yards rushing per game at home than on the road.
  • Morris is averaging over 36 points per game in October, compared to just over 20 points per game in September.
  • The Cougars use a two quarterback system with both Dan Gerrigan and Derrick Foss getting snaps. Gerrigan has put up more yards (1,265), but Foss has a higher completion percentage (.523) and more TDs (12).
  • The main target of those passes has been Brendon Foss with 48 receptions.
