PREVIEW: Volleyball Prepares for Final Regular Season Matches

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team will end its regular season and Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play this weekend as it welcomes Martin Luther College and Bethany Lutheran College to town Friday and Saturday.

Record: 15-11, 10-2 UMAC

  • The Saints are currently second in the conference and will look to secure a home tournament game with just one win this weekend.
  • Saturday's match against Bethany Lutheran will be Senior Day as seniors Jenny Kienzle (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS), Brittany Oakman (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS), Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) will be playing their final regular season match at the Reif.
  • Four players had six or more kills in Wednesday's three set victory over Northland.   
  • Zyvoloski leads the UMAC with 4.33 kills/set and is eighth in the country.
  • Zyvoloski is also fifth in the nation with 5.16 points per set.
  • Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) is third in the UMAC with 8.53 assists/set.

Record: 14-11, 8-4 UMAC

  • MLC clinched a UMAC berth with its victory over Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday.
  • The Knights are currently fourth in the UMAC and will likely be on the road for the postseason.
  • MLC is only 4-3 in their last seven matches, all in UMAC.
  • Rebecca Engelbrecht is second in the UMAC with 3.94 kills/ set.
  • Rachel Hein leads the UMAC and is first in the nation with 1.46 blocks per set.
