Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's volleyball team utilized all the players on its roster on its way to a 3-1 win over Crown College on Saturday afternoon at the Reif.
Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) served 11 in a row to begin the game, and the Saints would take 15-point lead in the first set going up 16-1. Crown was limited to just four points in the set, CSS winning 25-4.
The second set remained close until the Saints went on an 8-1 run, putting them up 19-11. The Saints would finish out the set winning 25-17.
Despite being up 11-6, the Saints would lose their lead and go down 27-25 in the third set.
CSS closed out the game by going on an 11-1 run in the fourth set to go up 18-7, taking the set and game 25-10.
Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led the Saints in both kills (16) and digs (18) in the match, while
Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn./Fridley HS) added eight kills and
Kayla Horbacz (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) chipped in seven kills.
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded 26 assists in the win.
Trisha Birr led Crown with 13 kills, as they drop to 3-20 overall and 1-8 in UMAC play.
The Saints, now 8-1 in the UMAC and 13-9 overall, will face the College of Saint Benedict at home on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Reif Gymnasium. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sport Net.
