Volleyball Tames Cougars

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) had 17 kills in the St. Scholastica volleyball team's 3-0 triumph of the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars on Friday at the Reif.

The Saints came out firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 13-5 lead in the first set.  CSS would stay in the lead for the remaining part of the set, winning 25-22.

After being down 6-0 to start the second set, the Saints went on a 7-1 run to tie the game up at 7-7.  The set would remain close until the Saints won six points in a row, giving them a 19-15 lead.  They would hold onto that lead and win the set 25-21.

CSS would go up 9-2 to start the third set, and would keep a lead of at least five points the whole set to take the set 25-19.

In addition to Zyvoloski's 17 kills, Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) recorded 13 kills and Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had eight kills.  Libero Jenny Kienzle (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) dug up 23 balls, while Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 42 assists on the way to the Saints' victory.  For the Cougars, Emily Auch had 13 kills in the loss.

The Saints improve to 7-1 in UMAC play, and are 12-9 overall.  The Cougars are now 5-3 in the UMAC, and 16-7 overall.

The Saints' next action will be tomorrow at home against Crown College. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in the Reif Gymnasium.  All the action can be seen live on Saints Sport Net.
