Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team held off numerous rallies by the Presentation College Saints and went on to win 73-62 Friday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
Both teams opened up the game trading basket for basket until the 14:25 when
Jonah Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) put the Saints ahead for good with a jumper from the right elbow. The Saints would extend the lead to as large as 12 in the first half, but Presentation crawled back to make it 36-33 going into halftime.
The Saints would open up the second half on a 7-3 run, only to see Presentation come within two, 53-51, with 8:43 left in the game. The Saints would never relinquish the lead and would stop two late runs by Presentation and went on to win a physical game, 73-62.
Presentation (6-10, 2-4 UMAC) was led by Darrell who had a double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Presentation also two other players score 11 points. Presentation would shoot 43-percent (25-58) from the field, 20-percent (3-15) from beyond the arc, and 64-percent (9-14) from the charity stripe. Presentation would collect 30 rebounds and commit 12 turnovers.
For CSS,
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) countered with a double-double effort of his own, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) was once again hot from downtown, chipping in 16 points. Dahlman added 10 points and six assists.
Derek Steve (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS) helped out with 8 points as well.
St. Scholastica would shoot 51-percent (27-53) from the field, 45-percent (9-20) from beyond the arc, and 83-percent (10-12) from the charity stripe. CSS would grab 32 rebounds and commit 13 turnovers.
The Saints (8-9, 5-1 UMAC) look to extend their conference win streak as they host Minnesota-Morris tomorrow night at the Reif Gymnasium with tip time scheduled for 5 p.m. local time. That game can be viewed on Game Central via csssaints.com.
