PREVIEW: Another Change in Venue for CSS Skiers this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's Nordic skiing teams were supposed to be competing at Battle Creek Park in St. Paul, but the location and course has been changed to Green Acres Recreation in Lake Elmo (10 miles away) for this weekend's USSA SuperTour.

Men's 10 km classic – 10 a.m.
Women's 5km classic – 11 a.m.
Sunday:
Women's 15km Classic – 9 a.m.
Men's 20km Classic – 10:15 a.m.

The Saints were at Wirth Park in Minneapolis for a USSA SuperTour event and CCSA NCAA qualifier last weekend. On Saturday, Jeremy Hecker (Andover, Minn./Andover HS (Minnesota-Twin Cities)) led the Saints with a seventh place finish collegiately in the 9km classic race. John Wessling (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) posted his best career CCSA finish at 14th. Sharmila Ahmed (Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) paced the women with her first collegiate top 10 finish in a CCSA race. On Sunday, Hecker had his third top five finish in a CCSA race this season, placing fifth and Scott Johanik (Washburn, Wis./Washburn HS ) had a career-best sixth-place finish as the Saints placed third as a team. Hecker's third top five is a program best. Ahmed led the CSS women once again on Sunday in the freestyle race, placing 17th collegiately. Eleanor Magnuson (Champlin Park, Minn./Champlin Park HS) was 21st.

2011 Michigan Tech SuperTour
Michigan Tech hosted this SuperTour last season. In Saturday's race, Jeremy Hecker (Andover, Minn./Andover HS (Minnesota-Twin Cities)) led the Saints men's team with a third-place finish in the 10km classic race, placing 19th overall in the SuperTour and seventh overall in the CCSA NCAA Qualifier. Julia Curry (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) paced the women in the 5km classic race, finishing 17th overall and 12th in the NCAA Qualifier. The Saints women finished fourth out seven teams. On Sunday, Waylon Manske (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) led the Saints men in the 15km freestyle race with a sixth place finish. The men finished third for the second consecutive day. Julia Curry (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) had a season-best ninth place finish in the 10km freestyle race to pace the CSS women. The women finished fourth for the second straight day.
