DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team scored the first tally, but 23rd-ranked Carleton College netted the final two goals to come out on top 2-1 and claim the 2011 Advantage Emblem Cup on Monday afternoon at Saints Field.

Carleton controlled much of the action early in the first half, having a shot hit the crossbar and later having CSS defender Megan Flesvig (Duluth, Minn./Proctor HS) clearing a ball from a sure goal. Towards the end of the half, the Saints got an opportunity as Flesvig played a ball up and freshman Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) sprinted past the defender and beat the 'keeper with the left foot to put the Saints up 1-0 with 1:45 remaining.

However, that lead didn't last long as the Knights' scored just 35 seconds later on an Ellie Wilson goal to tie it 1-1 at the half. Carleton outshot the Saints 13-3 in the first half as CSS goalkeeper Bailey Mahlum (Bismarck, N.D./Bismarck HS) had six saves in the half.

In the 63rd minute Carleton's Bailey Ulbricht struck a ball just outside the box from the left side and lofted it over Mahlum to give the Knights a 2-1 lead. The Saints had some opportunities after the goal, but Carleton goalkeeper Beth Ashinsky blocked them all as the Knights prevailed 2-1.

Mahlum had seven saves in the loss for the Saints. Ashinsky had eight saves to pickup the victory for the Knights. Carleton outshot the Saints 20-9 in the contest.

The victory gave the Knights the 2011 Advantage Emblem Cup with a total of 17 points. The Saints finished second with 10 points and the University of Dubuque was third with zero points. CSS's Andrea Beatt (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS), Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), Maggie Dolan (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS), and Megan Flesvig (Duluth, Minn./Proctor HS) were named to the all-tournament team. Ally Vanderstaay of Carleton was named the tournament's MVP.

The Saints will be in action next on Saturday at the Cobber Classic, hosted by Concordia College-Moorhead. The Saints will open with the host Cobbers at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Concordia is ranked 25th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III preseason poll.
