DULUTH, Minn. – Junior Andrea Beatt (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) scored two first half goals to give the St. Scholastica women's soccer team a 2-0 victory over the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in the opening game of the 2011 Advantage Emblem Cup at Saints Field on Saturday.

The Saints put the pressure on the Spartans early, and 13 minutes in freshman Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) drew a foul in the box setting up a penalty kick for Andrea Beatt (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS). Beatt converted the kick, beating the goalkeeper to the left side to make 1-0 CSS.

Beatt then had another opportunity from 25 yards out in the 37th minute and hit a perfect strike in the top corner of the goal to make it 2-0. Taylor Cunningham (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) assisted on the goal.

The Saints controlled much of the possession in the second half and would go on to win by 2-0 score. Molly Bergmann (Walker, Minn./Walker-Hackensack-Akeley HS) made three saves to earn the win for the Saints. It was Bergmann's sixth career shutout. The Saints outshot the Spartans 19-5.

The Saints will be in action again on Monday at 2 p.m. on Saints Field when they host 23rd-ranked Carleton College. Carleton will be in action tomorrow on Saints Field when they face the University of Dubuque at 1 p.m. All of the action can be seen live on GameCentral at csssaints.com.
