DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team defeated Presentation College on Sunday afternoon in four sets in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) contest at Reif Gymnasium.
CSS came out electric in the opening set with a .500 attack percentage and cruised to a 25-9 win. The Saints then struggled in the second set with a hitting percentage of .081, while Presentation had its best attack percentage of match at .219 and after 13 ties and 10 lead changes took the second set 25-23.
The Saints responded in the third set to score the first five points of the set and went on to win 25-15. In the fourth set, CSS trailed 5-3 before going on a 9-1 run to take control and ultimately win the match 25-19.
St. Scholastica is now unbeaten against Presentation in 21 all-time meetings. The PC Saints drop to a record of 2-13 and 1-1 in the conference.
Paige Hardy (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) led the Saints with 19 kills, while
Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) added 11 kills.
Sarah Kurtovich (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) had 31 set assists and
Nikki Hughes (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern HS) added 14 digs.
The Saints (12-5, 2-0 UMAC) will not be home again until October 21st and will begin a seven-match conference road trip next Friday when they visit Bethany Lutheran College. The action is set to begin at 7 p.m.
