DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team avenged last week's loss to the University of Minnesota-Morris, by sweeping the Cougars on Saturday night in the home and conference opener at Reif Gymnasium.
In the first set, the Saints scored the first two points and would never trail in the set. The Cougars (8-4, 0-1 UMAC) trailed by as much as eight and cut it down to two, but the Saints finished it out to win 25-18.
CSS then used an 11-2 run in the second set to pull away from the Cougars and go up by two games, 25-16. The Saints closed out the match in three sets by taking the third set 25-17.
Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) had a team high 18 kills and added 11 digs for her 10th double, double of the season.
Paige Hardy (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) added eight kills and a team-high 18 digs. Hardy also had four service aces.
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 14 assists and
Sarah Kurtovich (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) added 12 assists.
The Saints (11-5, 1-0 UMAC) will closeout the weekend tomorrow when they host Presentation College at 1 p.m. at Reif Gymnasium. All of the action can be seen live on GameCentral at csssaints.com.
