MORRIS, Minn. – Freshman
Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored a game-winning goal for the third straight game, with today's coming four minutes and 21 seconds into overtime to defeat the University of Minnesota-Morris 1-0 on Friday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.
The Saints put seven of their 10 first half shots on goal, but could not beat the 'keeper. The Cougars had two shots on goal, but
Molly Bergmann (Walker, Minn./Walker-Hackensack-Akeley HS) stopped them both as it was scoreless after the first 45 minutes.
There would only be four shots on goal combined between the two teams in the second half as it remained scoreless after the regulation 90 minutes.
In overtime, the Cougars would get a corner kick early, but then the Saints received back-to-back corner kicks with the second being the dagger as
Logan Williamson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) sent it in and Kehtel finished it with 94:21 on the clock to give CSS the victory.
Bergmann made three saves to earn her third shutout of the season. The Saints have not allowed a goal in the first four conference games. RiAnne Metz had 10 saves in the loss for the Cougars (3-4-0, 1-2-0 UMAC). The Saints outshot Morris 19-9 in the game and run their conference regular season unbeaten streak to 89 consecutive games.
The Saints (5-4-0, 4-0-0 UMAC) won't be in action next until a week from today when they face Northwestern College in St. Paul. That matchup is set to begin at 4 p.m. next Friday.
