Volleyball Bounces Back To Win Finale at Blazer Invitational

The St. Scholastica volleyball team beat Simpson College in straight sets to close out their weekend at the Blazer Invitational in St. Joseph.

The Saints took down the Storm (1-8) in three straight sets 25-21, 25-22, and 25-19 to end the weekend on a good note after losing both matches the day before to St. Benedict and Minnesota-Morris.

Paige Hardy (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) and Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led the Saints with 12 kills a piece, and Nikki Hughes (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern HS) had 14 digs to lead the Saints on the day. Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 39 assists to lead the Saints in that category while Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had three of the Saints' eight service aces in the match.

The Saints improve to 10-5 on the season and will play their first home match next weekend as they open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, hosting Presentation College on Saturday at 7.p.m.
