HOUGHTON, Minn. – Junior #Eleanor Magnuson# placed eighth the morning 5km freestyle race and seventh in the afternoon 10km classic race to earn all-region honors in both techniques on Saturday at the NCAA Central Regional Skiing Championships, hosted by Michigan Tech University.
The reason why both races took place on the same day was because the freestyle race was supposed to take place on Friday, but high winds postponed those races.
In the morning, Magnuson led the Saints in eighth place with a time of 15:15.2 seconds. Senior #Julia Curry# finished just outside the top 20 in 21st with a time of 16:00.2 seconds. #Brooke Adams# also finished in the top 30 in 28th with a time of 16:25.7 seconds.
Raphaela Sieber of Alaska-Fairbanks won with a time of 14:44.6 seconds. Fairbanks took the team title with 76 points. The Saints placed fourth in the skate race with 51 points.
Moving on to the afternoon's 10km classic race, Magnuson placed seventh with a time of 34:05. 3 seconds. This is the second straight year Magnuson has earned all-region accolades in both techniques and is still the lone CSS women to earn such accolade.
In this race, Curry and Adams both finished in the top 20 with Curry placing 17th with a time of 35:26.6 seconds and Adams 18th with a time of 35:41 seconds.
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay's Carolyn Freeman took the classic title with a time of 32:59.3 seconds. Alaska-Fairbanks also took the classic team with title with 81 points. The Saints finished fourth again with 53 points.
