The St. Scholastica men's hockey team finished in a 3-3 tie with the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils at Mars Lakeview Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The tie with Stout (5-5-1, 2-3-1 NCHA) improves the Saints' unbeaten streak to five games.

Both teams seemed a little flat to start the game but the tie was broken when Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) slipped through the defense and scored a breakaway goal to put CSS up 1-0.  Tyler Miller (Fort Frances, Ontario/Rainy River HS (Thunder Bay-SIJHL) ) was credited with an assist on the play.

Five minutes later at the 13:15 mark, Garrett Grimstad scored on an assist from Logan Maly to tie the game up at one.  The score remained at one a piece and the teams went into the first intermission all knotted up.

The Saints started the scoring once again in the second period when Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) scored on assists from Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Brenden Bradbury (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Monticello HS/Vincent Massey Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) to give CSS a one goal advantage.

Stout would once again answer when Grimstad scored his second goal of the game to tie it up at two.  The tie would remain going into the second intermission just as it did in the first.

The Blue Devils began the scoring in the third period just under five minutes in when Branden Gay scored his fourth goal of the series to make it 3-2 Stout.

Corcoran would strike again with just 2:41 left on assists from Dawes and Austin Brown (Lathrup Village, Mich./Legacy HS (Woodstock-MJAHL) ) to tie the game at three a piece.  The common theme of the game continued as the clock struck zero with the Saints and Blue Devils tied at three.

CSS had a scare in the overtime period as Stout controlled the puck for most of the extra time but Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) made a couple of nice saves to keep the Blue Devils in check.  Neither team could find the net in overtime and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Rundell made 22 saves on the night and now has a record of 3-2-2 on the season.

Corcoran's goals increased his team leading goal total to nine and point total to 17.  With another assist, Miller leads the team with 11 and is second to Corcoran with 15 total points.  Dawes remains in third with 14 points after a goal and an assist on the afternoon.

The Saints (6-2-2, 2-2-2 NCHA) will be on the road in De Pere, Wis. next weekend to take on the St. Norbert College Green Knights (6-2-3, 3-2-1 NCHA).  Puck drop on Friday is at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.  Stay updated at csssaints.com for all of the game coverage information.
