DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team will go out of conference this weekend when it hosts both Saint Mary's University on Friday night and St. Olaf College on Saturday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Cardinals are coming off a pair of 3-2 loss at last weekend's MIAC Hockey Showcase. SMU lost to the University of St. Thomas in the opener and then to St. Olaf College … Four of the six goals allowed last weekend came in the third period … Kevin Wentland led the team in points last weekend with a goal and an assist … Jason Horstman and Andy Scheib each got their first career starts in net last weekend … Horstman made 36 saves and Scheib had 35 saves … The Cardinals have yet to score a power-play goal this season, while the Saints have yet to allow a power-play goal.

The Saints and Cardinals last met in 2008 on Halloween night in Winona with the Saints coming out on top 9-1. The Oles went 1-0-1 at the MIAC Hockey Showcase last weekend … The Oles tied St. Thomas 1-1 and then defeated Saint Mary's 3-2 … St. Olaf then had a home exhibition game against the U18 Norwegian National Team and won 6-1 … Ross Trousdale led the Oles in the first two games of the season with three assists … Four different Oles recorded goals on the weekend … Senior Ben Leis and freshman Steve Papciak each got starts in net last weekend … Leis made 33 saves in the tie against St. Thomas and Papciak had 18 saves in the victory over Saint Mary's … The Oles have yet to allow a power-play goal this season.
