Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) was the only Saint to score in double-figures as the St. Scholastica men's basketball team was defeated by Finlandia University on Wednesday night 79-53.
After a back-and-forth start of the game that featured seven ties and six lead changes in the first 15 minutes, Finlandia went on an 8-0 with four minutes left in the first half to take a six-point lead. The Lions went into halftime with a 29-22 advantage.
Both teams were 10-for-29 from the field in the first half, but the Lions made a couple of more 3-pointers and five more free throws. Finlandia also outscored CSS 14-4 in points off turnovers in the half.
The Lions opened up an 11-point lead early in the second half, but the Saints responded with a 7-0 run to cu the margin back to four.
With it being a five-point margin with less than 16 minutes to go, the Lions opened up the game by going on a 27-5 run over the next eight minutes. Finlandia would end up winning 79-53.
Tester led the Saints with 19 points.
Alec Mortel (Luck, Wis./Luck HS) added eight points. The Lions (2-4) were led by Jonathon Moore who had 19 points. Dylan Johnson chipped in with 16 points.
The Saints (0-5) will be off until next Tuesday when they travel to the Twin Cities to face North Central University. The action is set to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m., following the women's game.
