Jimmies Too Much for the Saints

ST CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team fell behind early and could never recover in a 78-45 loss to NAIA's Jamestown College (N.D.) on Friday night at the Hoopster Classic, hosted by St. Cloud State.

The Jimmies, who are ranked 22nd in the preseason NAIA poll, scored the first six points of the game and never looked back, leading from start to finish. Besides the first six points, Jamestown had a 10-0, 8-0 and a pair of 6-0 runs in the first half to lead at halftime 38-14.

The Saints' shooting woes continued at 26-percent from the field in the half. CSS made five field goals in the half from five different players. The Jimmies shot 60-percent from the field in the half and outscored the Saints 22-6 in the paint.

The margin would not fluctuate too much in the second half, but the Jimmies would score nine of the final 12 points to win by a score of 78-45.

The Saints finished at 35-percent shooting for the game. The Jimmies finished at 55-percent and recorded 16 steals. Jamestown outscored CSS 30-9 on points off turnovers.

Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) led the Saints with 10 points. Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) and MarShaan Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis North HS (Minneapolis Comm. & Tech. College)) each added seven points. Johnson also led the team with eight rebounds. The Jimmies (4-3) had four players lead the team with 12 points.

The Saints (0-2) will go back to Division III competition tomorrow when they face Saint John's University at the Hoopster Classic. The tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
