PREVIEW: First Meeting with Northwestern Awaits Volleyball This Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team will look to remain unbeaten in league play this weekend as it will be at archrival Northwestern College on Friday night and Crown College on Saturday.

Friday – at Northwestern – 7 p.m.
Saturday – at Crown – 1 p.m.

The Saints swept a pair of road matches last weekend at Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther. Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led the Saints with 11 kills vs. Bethany Lutheran on Friday and along with Paige Hardy (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) had a team-high 12 kills vs. Martin Luther on Saturday.

St. Scholastica Saints (14-5, 4-0 UMAC)
The Saints have won five straight matches heading into the weekend … Four of which were sweeps and the Saints have won eight matches in three sets this season … The CSS defense has been strong the last four matches as no opponent has an attack percentage over .088 … However, the Saints have struggled with the serve lately with three straight matches of seven service errors … Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) leads the team with 10 double-doubles this season … Paige Hardy (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) is next with five double-doubles … Hardy needs just 33 more kills to reach 1,000 for her career.
    
Northwestern Eagles (17-2, 5-0 UMAC)
The defending UMAC Tournament champions are off to a fast start with its lone losses coming against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the season opener and then against the University of St. Thomas at the Augsburg Tournament … The Eagles have won 11 straight matches this season and will face Northland College tonight … The Eagles haven't had to travel outside the Twin Cities this season as last weekend's conference contests at Presentation and Minnesota-Morris were the first outside the Twin Cities all year … In fact, the Eagles have 16 home matches this season, compared to just nine true road contests … Northwestern is ranked in the top 30 in Division III in assists/set (13th), blocks/set (14th), and kills/set (30th) … Krista Stoltz is sixth in the country with a little over 11 assists per set … Courtney Jonas is 20th in the nation in blocks per set at 1.22 … Chelsea Koth leads the team with 252 kills, followed by Greta King with 216 kills … This weekend is also Homecoming at Northwestern.

Crown Storm (6-8, 1-4 UMAC)
After winning just nine matches in their last three seasons combined, the Storm has already won six matches under first year head coach James Yang … Four of the six wins this season have come against North Central (Minn.) and Macalester … Shelby Vischer leads the team with 134 kills and Trisha Birr is second on the squad with 103 kills … Kristin Buresh leads the UMAC with a .305 attack percentage … The Storm as a team are second in the UMAC in service aces with an average of 1.82 per set.

The Saints swept the Storm in the second-to-last match of the regular season to capture the UMAC regular season title outright for the first time since the 1988 season.
