DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team scored four first half goals on its way to a 6-0 victory over North Central University on Homecoming Saturday at Saints Field.
The first 32 minutes of the game would go scoreless until
Lauryn Wilson (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) entered the game and proceeded to score back-to-back goals two minutes and two seconds apart.
Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) had assists on the goal.
Kehtel then put the Saints up 3-0 in the 39th minute with assists from
Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and goalkeeper
Molly Bergmann (Walker, Minn./Walker-Hackensack-Akeley HS).
Taylor Cunningham (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) gave the Saints one more goal just before the half to extend the margin to 4-0. Kehtel and Firkus had the assists.
In the second half, Kehtel scored her second of the day and 11th of the season in the 69th minute.
Andrea Beatt (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) had the assist. The final goal came from
Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) on a header from a
Sophia Graham (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) corner kick in the 88th minute to make the final 6-0. For Mitchell it was her first collegiate goal.
Bergmann made one save in goal to earn her sixth shutout of the season. Noelle Stordock had 12 saves in the loss for North Central. CSS outshot the Rams 24-1 in the contest. The shutout streak for CSS runs to 726 minutes and 17 seconds and spans eight games. The Rams fall to 6-7 overall. The Saints hadn't played North Central since the 2004 season.
The Saints (9-4-0, 7-0-0 UMAC) will host their second annual “Kick it to Cancer” event tomorrow when they face conference-foe University of Minnesota-Morris at Saints Field. CSS will be wearing pink jerseys and there will be raffles and pink gear available for purchase. Please come out and support this great cause. The action begins at noon.
