Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team swept Northland College on Wednesday night by scores of 25-13, 25-9, 25-19 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) contest at Kendrigan Gymnasium.

Six of CSS's first 17 points were service aces, including three by Paige Hardy (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) and three straight by Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)). St. Scholastica matched a season-high with 10 service aces in the match. The Saints then scored the first 11 points in the second set to runaway with that set and went on a 7-0 run in the third set to close the match in three.

Zyvoloski led the Saints with 11 kills. Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) was next with five kills and Brittany Oakman (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) added four kills. Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 11 assists and Sarah Kurtovich (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) had 10 assists. Nikki Hughes (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern HS) led the defense with 19 digs. Every healthy Saint saw action in the contest. The LumberJills fall to 1-18 overall and 0-7 in the conference. 

The Saints (16-6, 6-1 UMAC) will be at the University of Minnesota-Morris on Friday night and Presentation College on Saturday to continue UMAC play. Friday's contest against Minnesota-Morris will begin at 7 p.m.
