NEW ULM, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team did not drop a single set all weekend as it defeated Martin Luther College on Saturday in three sets.
The Saints trailed 18-16 in the first set before tying the match at 21-21.
Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) then had back-to-back service aces to put the Saints up by two. That was followed by a
Paige Hardy (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) kill and the Saints eventually took the first set 25-21.
The second set was almost identical to the first set as the Knights were up 20-15. However, CSS would register 10 of the next 11 points to take the set by the same 25-21 score.
The third set would not be as dramatic as the first two with St. Scholastica jumping out to a 10-3 lead and finally recording the last eight points of the set to close the match out in three 25-11.
Hardy and Zyvoloski each had double-doubles on the day. Hardy had 12 kills and 10 digs, while Zyvoloski also had 12 kills and a team-high 16 digs.
Sarah Kurtovich (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) led the team with 24 set assists and
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) added 17 assists.
Martin Luther drops to 8-10 overall and 2-2 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
The Saints (14-5, 4-0 UMAC) continue away from home next weekend when they face conference rival Northwestern College on Friday night and Crown College on Saturday. The Northwestern contest will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday.
