RUMFORD, Maine – Freshman #Brooke Adams# was the lone Saints woman on the start on the final day of the Saints competing at the 2011 U.S. National Championships on Thursday.
Junior #Eleanor Magnuson# sat out the women's 20km with a sore throat.
Adams finished 56th in the junior women's field, in a Junior World Championship team qualifying race held in conjunction with the U.S. National Championships.
The University of Colorado's Joanne Reid won in a time of 13:49.1. Reid is the daughter of Olympic speed skater and NCAA ski champion, Beth (Heiden) Reid. Kinsey Loan of Alaska Pacific University finished second, while the University of New Hampshire's Elizabeth Guiney finished third.
“Brooke skied with a lot of fire today and I'm really proud of her effort,” said Saints coach,
Chad Salmela. “Brooke has had a rough patch of racing, and all I wanted to see was some fire and some fight, and she had that today in a very tough field of skiers. It was a good forward step for her going into the remainder of the season.”
The Saints host CCSA Qualifier #2 January 15th and 16th at the Marshall School in Duluth.
