RUMFORD, Maine – St. Scholastica junior #Eleanor Magnuson# led the Saints women on day two of the U.S. National Championships, finishing in a tie for 85th overall in the Women's 10km classic on Wednesday.

What was a muddy, slushy mess two days prior for the 1.6km classic sprint turned to a mix of dirty ice tilled together with a mix of man made snow on a 2.5 kilometer loop the skiers traveled around six times.

Alaska Pacific University's Sadie Bjornson, stunned the favorites, taking the overall victory ahead of teammate, Morgan Smyth and the US Ski Team's Morgan Arritola. CXC Elite Team member and 2010 Minnesota State High School champion, Jessie Diggins, finished fourth.

Alaska Fairbanks' Raphaela Sieber won the initial NCAA Championships qualifier for the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA), finishing ninth overall. Magnuson finished 21st in the CCSA race, while teammate, freshman, #Brooke Adams# finished 22nd.

“It was a challenging day for us,” said Saints coach #Chad Salmela#. “The conditions really required an extensive ability to handle variable grip in different places on the course.”

The Saints finish up their stint at the 2011 U.S. Championships Thursday with the 20km freestyle and junior 5km freestyle.
