RIVER FALLS, Wis.. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored late in the third period but fell to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) rival University of Wis.-River Falls on Saturday evening by a 3-1 final at Hunt Arena.
The Saints fall back to the .500 mark at 8-8-1 (3-7-0 NCHA), while the Falcons improve to 7-9-1 (3-7-0 NCHA).
The Falcons scored early and held on as the Saints made a late surge to try and make a comeback against their conference rival for the second night in a row.
UWRF got on the scoreboard at the 12:44 mark of the first as Justin Brossman scored an unassisted tally. The 1-0 score held through the first intermission, but the Falcons scored two goals in the first four minutes of the second period to pull away.
Andy Inderieden scored his second goal in as many games at the 2:13 mark of the second, while Brossman added a second goal on the night just 1:30 later.
The Saints out-shot the Falcons in each period, but couldn't break through against goaltender Scott Lewan, who stopped 39 of 40 CSS shots.
The Saints finally broke through in the closing seconds of the game as #Chad Golanowski# netted his second of the season with assists from #Brett Corcoran# and #Garet Chumley#, but it was too late for the Saints to stage a comeback for the second straight night.
#Patrick Sullivan# took the loss in goal despite making 25 saves for CSS.
Both teams finished with three penalties for six minutes, and neither team was able to score on its three powerplay opportunities.
CSS returns home to host its last two-game NCHA series of the year next weekend, taking on the University of Wis.-Eau Claire Blugolds.
