ASHLAND, Wis. – Five players scored in double figures with no one over 15 points in the St. Scholastica men's basketball team's 67-57 triumph at Northland College on Tuesday night to open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.

Northland (2-9, 0-1 UMAC) jumped out to an 18-5 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. The Saints (3-8, 1-0 UMAC) quickly got back in it with a pair of 3-pointers by #Derek Anderson#. Duluth East grad and Saints newcomer, #Sean Mayberry#, tied the game at 27-27 with a 3-pointer with 4:36 to go in the half. Mayberry scored eight of the Saints' last 10 points with the 3-pointer.

A #Brett Tester# jumper gave the Saints a four-point lead to make it a 9-0 run and CSS would have the advantage at the half 31-28.

Both teams had similar numbers shooting in the first half, but the 'Jacks had the advantage on the glass 22-15 and held CSS without an offensive rebound.

Tester came out in the second half and scored six of CSS's first eight points to extend its lead nine. The LumberJacks managed to get the deficit down to two with 12:36 to play, but two baskets by #Thad Picott# extended the lead back to seven.

#Danny Schmitz# also caught fire in the second half going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and scoring 13 of his team-high 15 points in the second half. Schmitz's 15 points moved him up to 13th on the Saints' all-time scoring list.

The Saints went 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the final three minutes to hold the lead and preserve the 67-57 victory.

Free throws proved to be the difference as the Saints were 20-of-25 for 80-percent, while Northland was 10-of-16 for 63-percent. For the first time this season, the Saints bench outscored their opponent's bench with a season-high 14 points.

Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) finished the game with 13 points. #Jonah Dahlman# had 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Derek Anderson (Cook, Minn./Cook HS), along with Sean Mayberry (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)), finished with 10 points each. Zeb Woiak had 16 points to lead the 'Jacks.
