Box Score 2 WINONA, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team fell to host-Saint Mary's University in straight sets but then rebounded with a 3-1 victory over the St. Catherine University Wildcats at the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic on Friday afternoon.
The host-Cardinals swept the Saints in three sets to open the tournament, winning 25-23, 25-13, and 25-17 to take the victory.
#Paige Hardy# (So.-Hibbing, Minn.) and #Anna Zyvoloski# (So.-Sauk Rapids, Minn.) led the Saints offensively, scoring eight and nine kills, respectively. Hardy and #Molly Roith# (Sr.-Plymouth, Wis.) each had one service ace in the match.
#Nikki Hughes# (Jr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis.) had 19 digs defensively for the Saints, while setter #Sarah Kurtovich# (So.-Andover, Minn.) finished with 28 assists.
For the Cardinals, Amy Kujak led the way with 13 assists, while Carissa Hahn added 11 of her own.
In the second game, CSS defeated St. Catherine University three-sets-to-one, by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, and 25-18.
In the tight match-up, Hardy contributed 20 additional kills, while Zyvoloski added 17. Kurtovich added 48 set assists in the Saints' second game. Hardy, Roith, and Hughes each finished with at least 17 assists.
With the split, the Saints improve to 4-1 on the year. CSS will play Augsburg College for a second time this season at 10 a.m. and 2009 NCAA Tournament participant Luther College (Iowa) at 2 p.m. tomorrow to conclude the Sugar Loaf Classic.
