DULUTH, Minn. – In its first home opener since the 2004 season, the St. Scholastica volleyball team swept all three matches of its own tournament on Wednesday at Reif Gymnasium.

The 2004 season was also the last time the Saints won their season opener. This is the third 3-0 start under Coach Moore with the last taking place in 2003.

CSS opened the season against Twin Ports-rival University of Wisconsin-Superior. The first set proved to be a dogfight as the Saints had to fight off two set points, but ultimately prevailed 28-26. From there it was all St. Scholastica, cruising in the second set 25-9 and taking the third set 25-21.

In the second set, the Saints had their best hitting percentage of the match (.440). Sophomore transfer #Anna Zyvoloski# (So.-Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) led the way with 11 kills, while the reigning Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Rookie of the Year #Paige Hardy# (So.-Hibbing, Minn.) added 10 kills. #Sarah Kurtovich# (So-Andover, Minn.) had 34 set assists and #Nikki Hughes# (Jr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) had 15 digs.

The second match proved to be the toughest against Augsburg College. The Auggies controlled the action early taking the first set 28-26. CSS responded by dominating the second set 25-10. The Saints then took control of the pivotal third set and came out on top 25-19. St. Scholastica closed the match out in four by taking the set 25-14.

Zyvoloski led the Saints again with 12 kills. Kurtovich had 32 set assists.

The Saints' final match featured fellow UMAC rival Northland College in a non-conference match. CSS had little trouble with the LumberJills winning 25-13, 25-10, 25-18. Zyvoloski had 12 kills once again for CSS. Hardy added eight kills and 13 digs. #Taylor Tyllia# (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) also had eight kills.

The Saints head to Winona on Friday to compete in the two-day Sugar Loaf Classic, hosted Saint Mary's University. CSS will face Saint Mary's at 4 p.m. and the College of St. Catherine at 6 p.m.
