DULUTH, Minn. – The fourth-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team fell to the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds 3-2 in the Saints' regular season finale at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints fall to 17-4-4 overall, and 11-3-3 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). Eau Claire improves to 8-13-3 (4-10-3 NCHA).

St. Scholastica jumped on Eau Claire early in the first period, as #Jeremy Dawes# (So.- Winnipeg, Man.) put home a rebound off an initial #Tyler Miller# (Fr.- Fort Frances, Ont.) shot, putting CSS up 1-0 just 25 seconds into the game. Dawes' goal was his 14th of the year; Miller and #Chris Meagher# (Sr.- Victoria, BC.) were credited with the assists. The 1-0 CSS lead was in tact at the end of the first period.

The lone goal of the second period came with only 28 seconds remaining, as Eau Claire tied the game on a shorthanded goal by Eric O'Hearn.

#Aaron Spotts#' (Sr.- Spokane, Wash.) snipe from just inside the Eau Claire blue line put the Saints up 2-1 just before the midway point of the third period. Spotts' sixth goal of the year came with help from #Brett Corcoran# (Fr.- Parksville, BC) and #Jordan Chong# (Sr.- North Vancouver, BC). The lead was short-lived though, as Eau Claire's Isaiah Bennis tied the game at two just 10 seconds after Spotts had given CSS the lead. Eau Claire would strike four minutes later to take a 3-2 lead on a goal from Ross Janecyk. The Blugolds hung on to preserve the lead, and post the 3-2 victory.

#Brennan Poderzay# (So.- Tower, Minn.) had 21 saves in the net for CSS. Eau Claire's Tyler Brigl also made 21 saves.

The Saints, with a second-place NCHA finish already clinched, will host a first-round NCHA Peters Cup Playoff series next weekend at Mars Lakeview Arena. The Saints will either face off against the Blugolds, UW-Superior, or UW-Stevens Point, as the opponent will be determined tomorrow following the remaining conference games.
