DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team fell behind early and never recovered as it was defeated by second-ranked St. Norbert College 6-1 Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
St. Norbert (11-1-0, 7-0-0 NCHA) scored a pair of goals in the opening period as Taylor Langford scored five minutes in and Scott Pulak added another nine minutes in to make it 2-0 at the first intermission. The Green Knights outshot the Saints 10-7 in the first.
The Knights added to their lead in the second with an Alain Joanette goal midway through the period. The Saints (4-6-0, 0-5-0 NCHA) appeared to cut the margin to 3-1 after #Jeremy Dawes# ripped a slap shot past B.J. O'Brien, the St. Norbert 'keeper, but the goal lamp never came on and it was ruled that the puck hit the crossbar. CSS outplayed the Green Knights in the latter part of the second period, but still trailed 3-0 at the second intermission.
The Saints finally broke through three minutes into the third period as #Austin Brown# scored his second of the season. #Riley Riddell# added his ninth assist and Dawes his third on the tally. However, the Green Knights were able push for three more goals, including one on the power-play to make the final 6-1.
#Brennan Poderzay# earned the loss for the Saints, stopping 18 shots before having to leave the game at the end of the second period due to injury. #Patrick Sullivan# had eights saves in the third period for CSS. B.J. O'Brien stopped 25 shots to earn the victory for the Green Knights. Both teams combined for 40 penalty minutes.
