Huskies Hand Saints Another Road Loss

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team converted a season-high 11, 3-point field goals, but it wasn't enough as Division II St. Cloud State won 88-54 Monday night at Halenbeck Hall.

It was the home opener for the Huskies (1-3), who made the Division II Final Four last season. This was the third meeting between the two programs with the Huskies winning all three.
 
The Saints (1-4) took an early 7-2 lead thanks to four points from #Brett Tester# and a 3-pointer by #Danny Schmitz#. The Huskies then went on a 14-2 run over five minutes to take a 16-9 lead. CSS hung in by way of the 3-point shot as it hit three consecutive shots from beyond the arc to regain the lead 21-20 with 7:49 to go before halftime. St. Cloud then went on an 8-0 run and closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 40-29 lead into the locker room.

The Saints shot 44-percent from the field in half and were 7-for-13 on 3-point attempts. The Huskies shot 46-percent and were a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line. CSS shot just one free throw in the half.

The margin remained right around 12 for the first five minutes of the second half until the Huskies went on a 15-2 run. Later in the half, St. Cloud went on a 16-3 run and would end up winning 88-54.

St. Scholastica cooled off in the second half and finished 39-percent from the field. The Huskies heated up and finished at 52 percent for the game. The Saints committed 22 turnovers, which led to 31 St. Cloud points.

#Derek Anderson# and Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) each had 15 points to lead the Saints. Anderson, who nailed five, 3-pointers, also led the team with seven rebounds. #Jonah Dahlman# had six assists. Ben Bucholz had 17 points to pace the Huskies.

The Saints won't be in action until next Wednesday (Dec. 8) when they face another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) School in Minnesota-Crookston. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
