Men’s Basketball Falls to Rival UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was defeated by bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior 84-45 on Saturday at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.

The Yellowjackets (4-1) scored the first seven points of the game before the Saints (1-3) got their first field goal by #Brett Tester# six minutes into the contest. CSS had a 7-0 run of its own a little later in the half and cut the margin to 13-11 following a #Derek Anderson# 3-pointer.

However, the Yellowjackets followed with a run of 19-4 over the span of six minutes. Superior went into halftime with a 41-24 lead.

The Yellowjackets shot 55-percent in the first half and connected on seven, 3-point field goals. They would finish with 11 for the game. The Saints shot 42-percent in the first half.

In the second half, UWS had runs of 9-0 and 12-0 as it went on to win handily 84-45.

St. Scholastica shot just 30-percent in the second half to finish at 36-percent for the game. The Yellowjackets shot nearly identical in the second 20 minutes of action and finished at 55-percent. Superior owned the glass 46-20.

#Logan Schultz# had nine points to lead CSS. Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) and #Danny Schmitz# each added eight points. #Nick Biedakiewicz# had a team-high five rebounds. Dan Culy nailed five 3-pointers and had a game-high 19 points for the Yellowjackets.

The Saints will face Division II's St. Cloud State on Monday night in St. Cloud. The tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
