DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was held to just one field goal in the final 8:36 as Concordia College-Moorhead rallied from a 19-point deficit to defeat the Saints 64-55 in the home opener on Saturday afternoon at Reif Gymnasium.
The Saints (0-2) were in control for most of the game, yet couldn't hold off the Cobbers (1-1) to grab their first win of the season.
CSS started the game with a 13-3 run led by #Derek Anderson# with nine points during that span. The Saints continued to shoot the ball very well in the first half by going 40-percent from the field.
In the second half the Saints controlled the game for the first 10 minutes. At one point, CSS had a 44-25 advantage with 14:14 remaining.
With a little under nine minutes to go in the game, the Cobbers started their comeback with a 7-0 run. The Saints would only make two shots from the field in the last nine minutes of the game. Concordia later had a 13-0 run and took over the lead, its first since the opening moments of the game, with 4:56 remaining in the game. The Cobbers never gave the lead back and went on to win 64-55.
CSS was led by
Derek Anderson (Cook, Minn./Cook HS)'s career-high 25 points. #Brett Tester# had his first career double-double with 12 points and career-high 10 rebounds. Concordia-Moorhead was led by John Fraase's 16 points.
The bench played a significant role in deciding the outcome of the game. The Cobbers had 33 points of the bench when the Saints only had four points.
