WOMEN'S SOCCER CLINCHES UMAC REGULAR SEASON TITLE

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team clinched the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season title and the top seed in next week's UMAC Postseason tournament with a 5-0 victory over Crown College on Friday afternoon.

The Saints (13-4-2, 12-0-1 UMAC) clinched their seventh straight UMAC regular season title with the victory, while Crown fell to 3-14-0 on the season (2-11-0 UMAC).

The Saints scored early and often, taking 43 shots against Storm goalkeeper Merissa Mosher, who made nine saves on the afternoon. #Molly Bergmann# made two saves for the Saints in preserving her fourth shutout of the season.

Sophomore #Joey Moore# got the Saints on the board at 12:03 in the first half with an unassisted score, her second of the season. Just eight minutes later, #Megan Flesvig# netted her first of the season with an assist from #Andrea Beatt#. The Saints took a 2-0 lead into halftime after outshooting Crown 19-1 in the first half.

Beatt netted her team-leading ninth of the season just five minutes into the second half, heading a a #Logan Williamson# corner kick into the net. She now leads the team with 22 points on the season.

CSS continued to control the offense, but the Storm kept the Saints off the board for the next 30 minutes, until #Shannon Carlson# scored an unassisted tally in the 81st minute. Just over one minute later, #Malia Grosskruetz# scored her second of the season with an assist from #Claire Lubansky#.

The 43 shots taken by the Saints falls short of the record 63 shots that CSS took back in the 2008 season in a 5-1 victory on Oct. 1 over Presentation.

The Saints will battle Northwestern College tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in the regular season finale at Reynolds Field.
