EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – After falling behind 2-0, the seventh-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team scored five unanswered goals in a 5-2 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire tonight at Hobbs Ice Center.

The Saints improve to 12-3-3 overall and 6-2-3 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Blugolds fall to 6-9-3 overall and 2-6-3 in the NCHA. It is the first time this season the Saints have trailed by two goals and came back to win a game.

Eight minutes into the contest, the Blugolds struck as Joe Bluhm scored. That was the score at the first intermission as Eau Claire dominated the opening period, out-shooting the Saints 16-4.

The Blugolds added to their lead with a Nic Weight power-play goal a little over three minutes into the second period. The Saints finally got on the scoreboard halfway through the period when #Jeremy Dawes# (So.-Winnipeg, Man.) netted his ninth of the season to make it 2-1. #Tyler Miller# (Fr.-Fort Frances, Ont.) and #Riley Riddell# (Jr.-Wawota, Sask.) had the assists.

Then a scary a moment for the Saints as goaltender #Brennan Poderzay# (So.-Tower, Minn.) would be involved in a collision and would be taken to hospital for precautionary reasons. #Zach Kleiman# (Sr.-Ottawa, Ont.) stepped right in and would not allow a goal the rest of the night.

The Saints tied the contest at 2-2 with 32 seconds left in the second period when the same three that were involved in the first goal came through again. This time Riley Riddell (Wawota, Saskatchewan/Wawota Parkland (UW-River Falls) ) scored his seventh of the season. Miller and Dawes had the assists. The Saints out-shot the Blugolds 14-11 in the period.

Less than two minutes into the third period, the Saints took their first lead of the night as #Jeff Gagnon# (Sr.-Quesnel, B.C.) put the puck in the net to make it 3-2. #Jordan Baird# (Sr.-Port McNeill, B.C.) and #Carter Davis# (So.-Moose Jaw, Sask.) had the assists. Just 16 seconds later, the Saints made it 4-2 on a #Brett Corcoran# (Fr.-Parksville, B.C.) goal. #Jordan Chong# (Sr.-North Vancouver, B.C.) assisted on the goal. Jordan Baird (Port McNeill, British Columbia/Victoria (BCHL)) added an empty-netter late to give CSS the 5-2 come-from-behind victory.

The Blugolds out-shot the Saints 46-28 in the contest. Brennan Poderzay (Tower, Minn./Tower-Soudan HS (Pickering-OPJHL) ) had 25saves before the injury and Zach Kleiman (Ottawa, Ontario/Quinnipiac Univ.) had 19 saves to earn the victory. Tyler Brigl stopped 23 shots in the loss for the Blugolds. There were a total of 13 penalties in the game.

The Saints and Blugolds will do battle again tomorrow night at Hobbs Ice Center. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The action can be heard live on ESPN Radio 560-WEBC.
