DULUTH, Minn. – The fifth-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team got back to conference action for the first time in over month tonight and got a stern reminder how tough the league is as 13th-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls blanked the Saints 5-0 at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for the Saints. CSS now has an overall record of 11-3-2 and a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) record of 5-2-2. The Falcons improve to 10-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the NCHA. The Falcons also snap a three-game losing streak to the Saints.

After scoring 13 goals against Northland College on Tuesday, the Saints would be held scoreless tonight. CSS put a lot of pucks on net, but could not get one past River Falls' goaltender Bo Storozuk.

The Falcons scored their goals in bunches. The first goal of the night came with six minutes left in the opening period with a Tyler Czuba goal. Just one minute later Jamie Ruff made it 2-0. Czuba added another goal 1:44 seconds after that one to make it 3-0 at the first intermission.

The score remained 3-0 until late in the third period as River Falls scored a pair of 4-on-4 goals 12 seconds apart to make the final 5-0. It is the first time the Saints have been shutout since a 3-0 loss to St. Norbert College on November 21, 2008, also at home.

CSS had a 42-23 shot advantage in the contest, including 16-4 in the third period. #Zach Kleiman# (Sr.-Ottawa, Ont.) got the start in net and lasted one period as he stopped eight shots, but received the loss, his first of the season. #Brennan Poderzay# (So.-Tower, Minn.) played the last two periods and had 10 saves. The Falcons' Bo Storozuk had a 42-save shutout for the Falcons. All of the goals scored were even-strength.

The Saints and Falcons will finish off their series tomorrow at Mars Lakeview Arena. The action is slated to begin at 7:05 p.m. It can be heard live on ESPN Radio 560-WEBC and it can also be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com. It will also be televised locally on My 9.
