DULUTH, Minn. – In a typical St. Scholastica, University of Wisconsin-River Falls women's soccer matchup, the contest went to overtime and #Megan Stingle#'s (Fr.-Duluth, Minn./East) goal with 5:05 left in the first extra session gave the Saints a 2-1 victory this afternoon.

Approximately 240 fans showed up at Saints field today to watch Saints square off against the Falcons. Three of the previous four meetings between the two schools have gone to overtime and the same would be true today. The teams were battling for the new Chalice Trophy, a new traveling trophy that will be up for grabs whenever the Falcons and Saints play.

The Falcons got on the scoreboard first as Janae Brown scored in the 17th minute with a shot to the far left post. Less than 10 minutes later, the Saints responded when Stingle's first shot was denied by the Falcons' goalkeeper, but the ball deflected back to #Jen Krokum# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./East) and she would tie the score at 1-1.

The first half was even with the Saints holding a slight advantage in shots 9-8. However, it would be all CSS in the second half, out-shooting River Falls 7-1. Falcons' goalkeeper Rachel Thompson made some tough saves to preserve the tie and the Saints had one shot hit the post as the match went to overtime.

In overtime, #Angie Groh# (Sr.-Andover, Minn./St. Francis) had a great lead pass to Megan Stingle (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Stingle approached the goal and snuck the ball inside the right post as the Saints came out victorious 2-1 to claim the Chalice Trophy.

CSS out-shot River Falls 18-9 in the match. CSS goalkeeper #Erin Olejnicak# (So.-Brainerd, Minn.) had seven saves to improve to 2-0 on the season. Rachel Thompson had eight saves in the loss.

The Saints are now 2-1-0 on the season, while the Falcons drop to 1-1-1.

The Saints begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on Wednesday when they travel to Northland College. The match is scheduled to get underway at approximately at 4 p.m., following the men's match at Northland Field.
