SAINTS BEGIN IN EAU CLAIRE WITH TWO LOSSES

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team was defeated 3-0 today by both Judson University (Ill.) and 20th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the UW-Eau Claire Labor Day Classic.

The Saints began the day squaring off with NAIA's Judson University. It was a tight match throughout as all three sets were determined by a margin of four points or less. The Eagles took the first set 25-21. The second set also went to the Eagles 25-22. Judson then closed out the match with a 25-23 victory.

#Jordan Beach# (Jr.-Princeton, Ill./Big Fork) had eight kills to lead the Saints. #Paige Hardy# (Fr.-Hibbing, Minn.) and #Megan Baartman# (Sr.-Andover, Minn.) added six kills.

CSS then faced host, 20th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. This was the Blugolds' first match of the day so they were fresh coming in. That showed early as the Blugolds won the first set handily 25-14.

The Saints battled back and forced the second set into overtime, but Eau Claire would prevail 27-25. The third set was also tight, but the Blugolds would take it 25-22.

Jordan Beach (Big Fork, Minn./Big Fork HS) led the Saints again with seven kills. #Alyssa McDonald# (Fr.-Chisholm, Minn.) had 19 set assists.

The Saints will be in action again tomorrow in Eau Claire when they face the University of Wisconsin-Stout for the second time this season at 10 a.m. and 21st-ranked Gustavus Adolphus at 12:15 p.m. at the McPhee Physical Education Center.
