DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team recovered from a tough loss last night to sweep both Bethany Lutheran College and the University of Wisconsin-Superior today in Reif Gym on Homecoming at CSS.
The Saints began the day quickly dispersing of Bethany Lutheran College 25-14, 25-14, 25-10. The Saints finished the match with 34 kills with #Rebecca Udermann# (
Sr.-Rosemount, Minn.) leading the way 10 kills. #Sarah Kurtovich# (
Fr.-Andover, Minn.) had 19 set assists.
The win put the Saints at 1-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Vikings fall to 0-2 in the league with the loss.
After University of Wisconsin-Superior swept Bethany Lutheran in the second match of the day, the third and final match featured the Border rivals Saints and Yellowjackets. The teams had split the two previous meetings this season.
It would be all Saints from start to finish. CSS took the first set 25-15 with a match-high 13 kills. The second set was not any closer with Saints taking that set 25-14 with 12 kills. St. Scholastica closed out UW-Superior by winning the third set 25-16.

The Saints, who are now 7-10 overall, will play their first conference road matches next weekend when they face defending UMAC champion Northwestern College on Friday and Crown College of Saturday. The Northwestern match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday.
