DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team had no trouble in its 2009 season opener defeating rival University of Wisconsin-Superior 9-0 this afternoon at Saints Field.

The Saints are now 2-0-3 in their last five season openers and have won their last 14 regular season matches. CSS improves to 8-0-0 against the Yellowjackets all-time.

The Saints earned their first goal of the contest in the 15th minute as #Melisa Entinger# (Sr.-Mound, Minn./Holy Trinity) beat the goalkeeper, struck the right post and deflected in. #Nicole Brandt# (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) had the assist. Just over a minute later, #Jen Krokum# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./East) scored from 30 yards out as the ball was just out of the reach of the Superior goalkeeper. #Angie Groh# (Sr.-Andover, Minn./St. Francis) had the assist.

Groh then scored on her own 1:34 later with an unassisted goal to make it 3-0 St. Scholastica. Groh scored again in 22nd minute with an assist from #Beth Flesvig# (Sr.-Proctor, Minn.). Jen Krokum (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored the final goal of the first half in 28th minute as the Saints had 5-0 lead at halftime.

Melisa Entinger (Mound, Minn./Holy Trinity HS), who had the first goal to start the game, had the first goal of the second half with an assist from Angie Groh (Andover, Minn./St. Francis HS). Entinger was on the giving end of CSS's next goal getting the assist on #Megan Stingle#'s (Fr.-Duluth, Minn./East) first goal as a Saint.

Junior #Cassandra Whitney# (Jr.-East Grand Forks, Minn.) and freshman #Anna Valerius# (Fr.-Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) netted their first career goals to round out the scoring. #Britt Walle# (Fr.-Tafjord, Norway/Duluth East) had the assist on both. St. Scholastica went on to win 9-0.

#Erin Olejnicak# (So.-Brainerd, Minn.) earned the win for the Saints as she had to make just one save to earn her seventh career shutout. Arianna Livingston had the loss for the Yellowjackets. The Saints out-shot Superior 35-1 in the match.
